Family Members and IDDS

A Working Partnership
One of the most important partnerships is that between your child, your family and IDDS. These are some of the ways that can ensure your child’s success:

With your child(ren):

  • Encourage and support learning and the love of learning. Make sure that your child(ren) get to school on time and attend school every day.
  • Make sure that s/he does their assigned homework every day.
  • Make reading a part of your child’s daily routine.
  • Explore your home and school community resources together.
  • Make sure that children are ready for school in the best way possible (shelter, food, rest and clothing).

At school:

  • Get to know the IDDS school staff.
  • Read the weekly communications, including progress reports, sent home on Thursdays
  • Attend Open Houses
  • Regularly contact your child’s teacher(s) about your child’s progress
  • Join the Parent-Teacher Association and attend PTA meetings
  • Volunteer:  Interdistrict Collective Voices (ICV) – school governance; classrooms; external lab; media/library;  parent-student newsletter; tutors
  • For more information, call the Main Office
    at 612-752-7100.

What is the Responsive Classroom approach? Many IDDS Teachers have been trained in this program, and are currently using it in their classrooms.

Non-Member District Enrollment
Students who DO NOT reside in a WMEP-member school district are eligible for enrollment in a WMEP interdistrict magnet school as defined in Section IIA of the WMEP Student Enrollment Policies and Procedures on a space available basis, according to the following terms:
The superintendent of the student’s resident district must sign a WMEP Non-Member District Enrollment Agreement on an annual basis, guaranteeing the transfer of full funding for the student to the WMEP interdistrict magnet school during that school year.  Full funding is defined as the tuition rate for non-member districts, as annually determined by the WMEP Joint Powers Board.

Non-member district students must provide their own transportation to and from WMEP interdistrict schools.
